For those who are inexperienced, Bareboat charter is not a group of naked people sailing together! It means you can charter a yacht to sail by yourself.
You must produce a good driving license if you want to rent a car. However,you need to show a considerable group of skills and exeperiences to be allowed to power the yacht; or you will need a captain to help you. You will need to have a sailing license in some areas including European countries.
Most bareboats are from 30 to 50ft (10 to 15m) in length; you can also charter a conventional single hulled yacht (monohull), a Catarnaran or a Powerboat. Sailing yachts are more popular and favored than powerboats.
Bareboats have necessary things to be operated such as kitchen utensils, towels, sheets or bedding. Almost all bareboat enterprises offer you a dinghy and some also give you an outboard machine free of charge; other may offer them as an optional extra. Some bareboats have generators, air conditioners, microwave ovens and TVs, but some do not. They will not also have extra gadgets and toys such as kayaks, windsurfers or outboards powerful to pull a water-skier. Such a thing is only found on crewed yachts or in some cases as paid extras.
In case you have not chartered before, you may want to use a charter agent to assist you in selecting a suitable enterprise. The suggestions of a good agent can be helpful for you because they can give you information (charts and pilot books) on the region you want to sail in and solutions for any problem that may arise.
When chartering a yacht for hliday, you should work with a famous bareboat company rather than with an individual because dealing with a strange one that you have never met before can become risky and particularly when you are asked for advanced payment.
